Fifty-eight-year-old Fonda Britt, from Bowling Green, Ky., poses for portraits on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 outside her home at Bowling Green Towers—a low-income apartment complex on College Street—downtown. Britt says she got into fashion as a young girl when her grandmother, a fashion model, would take her along to sewing classes. “I fit right on in there with her. I started loving it,” she said. When she was 14, attending the old Bowling Green Junior High—once situated just across the street from BG Towers—she got the “best dressed” award. Aside from her childhood connection, Britt says her clothes speak to who she is as a person. “I’m sunshine—when the sun is out, I feel better. I’m a child of God, and just I love to smile.” she said.
